Beach Hop
Pick up a rental car directly from the marina and set out to explore Waiheke at your own pace. Head first towards Onetangi Beach, one of the island’s longest stretches of sand, perfect for a swim or a morning walk.
From there, you can shape the rest of your day depending on how far you feel like going. If you’re keen to explore further afield, continue out to the eastern end of the island — stopping at places like Batch Winery in Rocky Bay, Poderi Crisci, Waiheke Distilling Company, or all the way out to Man O’ War Vineyard for something a little more off the beaten track.
If you’d prefer to stay closer to Onetangi, you’re just as well set. The beachfront is home to some of the island’s most popular dining spots, including Charlie Farley’s, Three Seven Two and Ki Māha — all perfect for a long, relaxed lunch by the water.
It’s an easy, flexible way to experience Waiheke’s beaches, vineyards and food scene in one day — with the freedom to take your time and stop wherever feels right.
Join a Tour
For a more relaxed and social way to explore, join a guided tour and let someone else take care of the details.
Operators like Waiheke Wine Tours offer a range of experiences, from boutique wine and lunch tours to sunset and cultural options, giving you the chance to visit a selection of vineyards without needing to plan a route or organise transport.
If you’d prefer something more active, Terra and Tide offer guided walking tours that take you through some of the island’s most beautiful landscapes, combining coastal scenery with local insight along the way.
Most tours can arrange easy pick-up or transfers, making it a seamless option from the marina. It’s a great way to see more of Waiheke, discover new places and enjoy the experience without needing to think about the logistics.
Slow Day, Island Style
If you’d rather take things slow, Waiheke is just as good at a gentler pace.
Start your morning at the Floating Koko Café with a coffee and something to eat, then take a short taxi ride into Oneroa village. Spend a few hours browsing boutique stores, local galleries and small shops, or simply enjoy wandering through the village at your own pace.
From there, settle in for a long lunch at one of the local restaurants, followed by a walk along Oneroa Beach or a quiet spot overlooking the water. It’s an easy, relaxed way to experience the island — with no strict plans, just time to enjoy it.
