Support local – support your local Waiheke Coastguard unit

20 September 2025
Having Coastguard Membership is akin to an insurance policy - and supporting your local unit is important.

For as little as $150 per year you can be assured that if “something untoward” happens one of the Volunteer Coastguard Units nearby will be called by our Operations Centre and will dash to your rescue any time of the day or night. You may have run out of fuel, you may have mechanical issues, your boat may be in a dangerous situation (taking on water, lost propulsion for example) or your crew may be needing help or experiencing a medical incident. Whatever your waka and whatever the nature of  the incident – we’ll come and help.

Waiheke Volunteer Coastguard Unit needs your help to stay on the water. We have 30 highly trained volunteer crew ready to assist you on the water. We all give our time generously and freely. Our rescue vessel however does not run on the smell of that same oily rag. Our operating costs per year are about $100K and we dash to over 111 call outs per year. We receive some funding from the government as a search and rescue service but for the majority of our funds we are reliant on donations and membership commissions.

You can help us by simply buying or renewing your Coastguard membership AND ensuring that the Unit you choose to support is the WAIHEKE UNIT. You get offered this choice after you add your address for membership. When you name WAIHEKE our Unit receives 1/3 of your membership fee – this seriously helps to keep us afloat! We are very grateful for this support.

Go to our website to buy or renew membership.  If you are not sure what Unit you choose and you have set your membership  to autorenew – please email membership@coastguard.nz or call 0800 BOATIE (262 843)

You can also help us to help you by donating directly to our Givealittle page

On behalf of all our crew – many thanks – from Waiheke Coastguard
